Global Culinary Journey At The Sassy Spoon Powai | Beautiful Modern Dining Destination | Food Review | Food Photography

Powai has suddenly turned into the party zone and top culinary destination in the suburbs, giving tough competition to venues such as Lower Parel, Anderi, and BKC. One of the newest entrants here is this sassy place. Walk in to feel like you just entered the saner version of Alice in Wonderland.

The greenery below the ceiling with the fairy lights, the differently-colored chair cushions, the careful arrangement of quirky collectibles along the booth wall, the life-size van fixture at the well-appointed bar, the medley of high chairs with zebra pattern, the cherry blossom motif on the pillar in the center and the juxtaposition of primary colors against each other. Look at me, I can write an architectural digest episode here!

Combine this with an ever-helpful staff, a menu that promises a tour around the world, live music on special nights, a general bonhomie in the air and you know this is a winner. Prices are on the higher side but cannot complain looking at the location and the brand name. The quality of the food certainly justifies it to a large extent.

For our review session, we had and loved-
TOMATO, OLIVE AND PARMESAN SOUP- LOVED, hot bowl of warmth that I needed on this chilly evening,

WARM LEMONY COUSCOUS WITH TOASTED ALMONDS, PEPPERS, CHILLI, CORIANDER SALAD- Healthy wholesome bowl, different flavors and textures went well together, a nice trip through west asia,

SPICY KIDNEY BEANS EMPANADAS WITH QUESO - Straightforward, heavy dish, try it when you are in a group, could feel a bit dry but tasty nonetheless,

BAKED BEETROOT & FETA KEFTEDES IN ONION SEED PITA WITH CUCUMBE TZATZIKI -LOVED, MUST-HAVE, the beetroot & feta koftas were OUTSTANDING, if I could make beetroot taste like this I would never eat outside food #justsaying :D Would come back here just to try this,

BAKED LASAGNA WITH CREAMED LEEKS, MUSHROOMS, SWEET POTATOES & CHEDDAR - Again LOVED, and on the healthier side with layers of lasagna sheets, mushrooms, sweet potatoes in a hearty tomato sauce, Italy tastes good :D,

NUTTY RICOTTA RAVIOLI WITH HOMEMADE RICOTTA, WALNUTS, PINE NUTS AND GARLIC CREAM SAUCE- Hands down my FAVORITE, the play of ricotta mounds with nuts and creamy sauce, explosion of flavors in mouth, had the potential to be bland or heavy and was none, try this for sure!,

SEVEN TEXTURES OF HAZELNUT AND CHOCOLATE-Think of every chocolate and hazelnut based dessert form-pastry, disc, biscotti, mousse, molten sauce..this ultimate dessert has it ALL, if you love chocolate and hazelnut, try this. If you don't, well try this anyway and then probably go for therapy :P,

RASPBERRY MOUSSE- Dark Chocolate meets Raspberry in a mousse form and gets immortalized in a fluffy decadent dessert with tangy raspberry sorbet by the side. MUST-HAVE!

True to their promise, you can travel around the world on one plate here with fresh ingredients, delicious culinary experimentation, cool ambiance, prompt service, and smiling helpful staff. On all points, a complete pleasure. This hungry hippo gives a thumbs up.

Drifters Tap Station BKC Mumbai | More Than Just Handcrafted Beer On Tap | Food Review

Even though I do not drink alcohol, I had an unexpectedly amazing time at Drifters with my sister, saying goodbye to the 1st month of this new year and that I think simplifies the question - 'who should visit here', with the resounding answer of 'Anyone and Everyone wanting to have some fun' :)

This is one special place for beer lovers with 24 handcrafted beers on tap. Spacious, situated in the ever-blooming BKC area, with industrial-kinda decor and high chairs, the vibe is completely chilled out. Peppy music, a comprehensive menu with Indian, Thai, Continental selection and top-notch service by delightfully polite and helpful staff. Prices seem reasonable for the location, quantity and quality.

>>> We started by trying different kinds of beers in little shot glasses just to get a feel of the place. Now, I do not drink, so cannot explain the nuances of the beer we tasted. What I can say with supreme confidence is that if you are a beer lover you should surely check this place out. We tried-

KIKI PUNCH (Kokum Cider), this is the one I liked the most because of strong kokum flavor,
COCO-CALM (Coconut Saison Ale), just a hint of coconut,
CITRONOVA (Lemongrass White IPA), on the bitter side,
PINNOCCHIO (Pina Colada Ale), fizzy, a little tropical hint

>>> SWEET CORN SOUP- We specially asked for this since my sister's throat was sore, this was warming to the heart with loads of veggies and minimal spices.

>>> APPETIZERS

STUFFED KULCHA BALLS- BEST of the evening, we asked for seconds! Little heavenly kulcha doughs filled with cheese, paneer, onions, mushrooms and baked in tandoor, try it, you would not want to share a single bit with anyone :D

CRUMBED COTTAGE CHEESE- Cottage cheese sticks coated in batter and deep fried, so crunchy and soft at the same time,

TANDOORI STUFFED MUSHROOMS- Button mushrooms stuffed with cottage cheese and nicely marinated in spicy + creamy sauce,

ACHARI SOYA CHAAP- Good for those who like mock meat kind of substitute. The texture here is reminiscent of mutton chaap I assume. I like Soya's texture (it is extremely meaty) so I was fine with it but my sister is not fond of soya so she didn't like it. Choose this one judiciously!

>>> MAINS

TURKISH CASSEROLE- Think of it as Turkish version of Lasagna :D Nice. Mix of layers of tomatoes, broccoli, olives and such veggies with soya mince (meaty texture), spaghetti all in tomato based tangy-mildly spicy sauce and a thick layer of cheese, baked in oven. Sounds delicious? It IS!

PANEER LABABDAR with JODHPURI LACCHA PARATHA- Delicious mildly tangy-spicy tomato onion gravy, soft paneer pieces and Jodhpuri wholesome paratha with sesame seeds atop, licked the plate clean with this one!

>>> DESSERTS

CREAM CARAMEL - Delicious, soft wobbly custard with caramel, what is not to love!

CREAM COCONUT WITH KIWI PINEAPPLE - Simple yet a MUST-HAVE. Layers of Kiwi, Pineapple and fresh Coconut Cream come together to make a light, sublime yet utterly satisfying end to a great meal.

As I said earlier, I was wondering going in for this review session that what would a non-drinker like me get here? Turns out there is ample on the food front here to keep me happy for multiple visits. This hungry hippo happily recommends Drifters to drift in with friends and have a great time :)

The Public Co. Vashi | European Comfort Food | Food Review | Restaurant Review

One of the best feelings about being a foodie is when you find a little gem unexpectedly. This is what happened with me at The Public Co. The review invite made it sound like majorly a drinking place and I don't drink, PLUS it is pretty far off from my home, so I almost did not visit here but my sister decided to drag me here on Saturday for lunch. Don't tell her this but she was right :P This did turn out to be pretty amazing find for us :)

Situated at Satra Mall, Vashi, The Public Co. is an ode to best of Europe. Spacious and bright (with lots of yellow color taking center-stage), the vibe is bright + happily laid-back. Huge bar. Yes, majorly a watering hole (as I suspected) with many offers on drinks, but a nice compact menu with sandwiches, burgers, soups, pasta, pizza, sizzlers, all with a promised flavor of Europe in there. Just think of comfort food and you are set here.

Prices a bit on higher side. Portions are good, staff is very polite and helpful. Some dishes did take a long time coming but we did not mind since none of the staff were hovering around us, they let us chill and we soaked in some Dua Lipa and her new rules followed by Edward Sheeran's magnetic push and pull and Sia's Chandelier (rocking music) :D

Started off with SWEET FRESH LIME SODA, E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T, very refreshing,

-- SOUPS--

MINESTRONE- Italian soup, very mildly spicy, tomato based, little bits of veggies, garlic, onions, LOVED,

CORN AND CHEESE- My sister's FAV, creamy and thick corn + cheese mix, 2 bowls of this is enough as a light lunch, RECOMMENDED ♥

-- APPETIZERS--

COTTAGE CHEESE MAMA ROSA- soft pieces of cottage cheese in mildly spicy rich tomato sauce, this was good,

VEG PLATTER - Big platter consisting of MAC & CHEESE NUGGETS, JALAPENO-CHEESE POPPERS, BROCCOLI-CHEESE CROQUETTES, ONION RINGS and GARLIC BREAD. Now, I am not much into heavily fried stuff. It all tastes the same to me. I liked the mac-cheese nuggets, garlic bread, so this platter for me personally was not great. BUT my sister who often parties with her friends said that this is EXACTLY the kind of platter one wants while drinking. So I am letting her be the judge of how good this platter was. I will not reorder it but apparently people want something like this at a watering hole, so go ahead, order it if you are drinking.

Oh, the platter came with 2 dips, those were amazing.

-- MAIN COURSE--

We were pretty full after hearty soup and big platter so even though I had my mind on trying a lot of other stuff, we just tried-

SPINACH LASAGNA- Easily, one of the BEST Lasagna we have ever had ♥ I would come back here just for the soups and this lasagna. Pasta sheets, perfectly layered with spinach, cheese, herbs, it is a simple dish that tastes magnificent. Mind-blowing, great dish. RECOMMENDED ♥

THAI GREEN CURRY- Spicy full-bodied creamy coconut-based Thai curry served with huge portion of steamed rice, very good, I liked that they did not unnecessarily add any sweetening flavor in the curry here. It was rustic good taste.

-- DESSERTS--

CHOCO LAVA CAKE- Chocolate enclosure cake with oozing molten lava, served with vanilla ice cream, I single-handedly demolished 75%,YUMMY :D

SIZZLING BROWNIE - Sizzling plate, Moist Brownie, Vanilla Ice cream, Chocolate Sauce, what's not to love ♥

Well, our long drive to and fro here was certainly worth it, 100% recommended for some hearty comfort food. Bon Appetit!
