Bella Vita Organic Growth Protein Conditioning Hair Masque Review | Organic Keratin Hair Mask Spa Cream | Beauty Review | Haircare Review

Looking for a value-for-money hair conditioning spa-at-home product? Who isn't! After all, we are all dealing with myriad issues of hair fall, hair thinning, itchy scalp, dandruff, frizzy hair, dry hair, dehydrated hair etc. etc. In fact, I don't remember meeting a single person in past couple of years who isn't fed up of all these hair-related issues. No matter what the issue, there is a solution. Check out this Bella Vita Organic Growth Protein Conditioning Hair Masque :)

Packaging of Bella Vita Organic Growth Protein Conditioning Hair Masque is in a sturdy plastic tub that seems travel-friendly.

Ingredients list includes a potent mix of goodies such as Almond Oil, Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, Brahmi, Bhringraj, Onion Seed Oil, Castor Oil, Neem, Keratin and so on. It is free of harsh detergents as well as paraben and sulphate free.

Claims that this Keratin Hair Spa Cream Mask will nourish and condition hair while promoting hair growth, reducing frizz and battling dandruff.

Availability of Bella Vita Organic Growth Protein Conditioning Hair Masque is very good online on its website as well as on Amazon and the 200 gram tub is available for Rs. 399 only which makes it affordable.

Quantity is 200 grams which is enough to last for 10 washes on my shoulder-length  curly, frizzy hair which is very veryyyyyyyyy dry. I call it value for money.

Usage - Apply on wet hair after shampoo and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off. Easy-peasy.

Effect - Thanks to my extremely dry, frizzy, dehydrated hair with itchy, dandruff-prone scalp, I have to be always on the lookout for a great conditioning option. I don't use normal conditioners on my hair anymore because my hair needs extra nourishment every single time and most conditioners don't provide long-lasting results. So I keep flitting from one hair mask to another, but most of the time the results don't last for more than 24 hours.

Anyway, I bought Bella Vita Organic Growth Protein Conditioning Hair Masque from Amazon after hearing about it from many of my friends and beauty bloggers. It is very reasonably priced so I thought that even if it does not work very well, I won't be heart broken. Spoiler alert-This spa cream lets my hair stay frizz-free for nearly 3 days which is an excellent achievement and I am already repurchasing it.

It has a mild herbal fragrance that lingers just for a couple of hours, nothing overwhelming or artificial about it. The texture is very creamy and it spreads nicely on my hair after I shampoo it. I  don't use it on my scalp and use a dedicated anti dandruff shampoo too so can't speak for its efficacy on dandruff. But it does reduce frizz and conditions hair which was my primary motive for buying it. It lets me comb my hair without any tangles in my curly nest. Since my hair is extremely dry and damaged over many years, I am not expecting any overnight miracles but am very impressed with how it conditions my hair and makes it frizz-free.

Thus, I would recommend Bella Vita Organic Keratin Hair Spa Cream to everyone who needs a good spa-at-home-feel within the most affordable price point. It has naturally beneficial ingredients, no harmful chemicals, mild fragrance, creamy dreamy texture and one can even use it for a longer time period for deeper conditioning feel.

Choonkar Cold- Pressed Neem Oil Review | Miracle Worker For Acne Redness Inflammation | Beauty Review | Beauty Collaboration

Want to meet a miracle worker? Here you go- Choonkar Organics Pure Cold-Pressed Neem Oil, Raw & Natural. And trust me, while I am easy to please, this product has made a special place in my heart based solely on its performance overnight.

Neem is famous in India as a traditional authentic potent Ayurvedic remedy for external as well as internal use. Internally it purifies blood and externally it is applied as a miracle remedy for pimples, rashes, acne, boils, and this is why I specifically chose Neem oil from Choonkar for review purposes because I had been battling horrible recurrent acne, rashes, redness, inflammation on my face, specifically my cheeks area for past year.

Packaging of Choonkar Organics Pure Cold-Pressed Neem Oil is in a simple plastic bottle that seems sturdy, but the cap may leak the product if kept in a slanted position so I won't call it travel friendly. I suggest to transfer it in a more secure container if taken while traveling.

Ingredients list has just one name-100% pure, cold-pressed, raw, natural neem oil.

Claims to be GMO-free, Gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, pure and natural, and work on skin, hair, nails in the typical potent neem way.

Availability of Choonkar Organics products is good online on Amazon, and this miracle oil is available for just about Rs. 199 which is amazingly affordable.

Quantity of this 60 ml oil is more than sufficient to last ages even when I use about 10 drops every night on my face as massage oil.

Usage - Internally as well as externally since it is pure neem oil. I use it solely on my face for reducing acne and inflammation. I suggest patch test for everyone before using any new product.

Effect - I woke up one fine day with my cheeks filled with big red angry pimples and my cheeks covered in rashes. It may be due to changing weather or the fact that I had used some new beauty products in past week or due to hormonal changes *sigh* I don't know. Something triggered a massive acne and redness attack on my face and the pimples were hurting very bad.

This has been a pattern with me for past 1 year when I have battled many health issues and family issues so I was not surprised. Thankfully, I had this Neem Oil in my stash from Choonkar that I had not yet used.

But this was the perfect opportunity. So I stopped using every beauty product and simply washed my face with my trusted Himalaya Neem Turmeric Face Wash, mixed this Neem Oil with Lacto Calamine Lotion and applied on my skin. In evening, I again washed my face with Himalaya and applied Indrani Cosmetics Anti Acne Gel and let it stay on my face for about 3 hours. Then I washed it off and applied this Neem Oil mixed with Calamine lotion and went to sleep.

3 days later, my pimples had vanished and my redness was much controlled. Since then, I have used more or less the same routine and my skin is thanking me right now. I had heard about the miracles of neem oil but this time I saw the miracle with my own eyes. Choonkar Neem Oil is a potent product that smells strong, showing its purity. It also stings if it goes near the eyes so I suggest everyone to be careful about that.

Since it is such a strong product I do not apply it directly on my skin because I don't know when my problematic skin will start acting up. Right now I am mixing it with my Patanjali Aloe Vera Gel and applying it. But I am sure normal skin people can use it directly, and maybe I can too, I just need courage to do that :D

In any case, it is an incredible product and I am always going to keep it by my side as it leaves my skin purified, soft, redness and acne free. Soon I am going to use a few drops in my shampoo and oil too for getting rid of dandruff permanently. What an amazing multi-purpose product :)

YES
  • Miracle worker, pure potent Neem Oil
  • Soothes, calms skin, works on acne and inflammation overnight
  • Extremely value for money
  • Multi-purpose for skin, hair, nails
  • Available on Amazon
NO
  • The bottle is not travel friendly as the cap can let the oil leak sometimes
  • Neem oil is so strong, it will sting eyes if it gets near, so be careful

Recommended -YES. An absolutely incredible product from Choonkar Organics that everyone should have at home. Rating is 5/5.

Ponds Super Light Gel Oil Free Moisturiser Review | Hyaluronic Acid & Vitamin E For Hydration | Beauty Review

One of the biggest issues I always face (and I think everyone faces) is that of finding a good moisturizer. Either we get one that makes our skin too oily or one that leaves it dry within a couple of hours, or one that provides good hydration but also brings pimples on acne-prone skin...and so on. Imagine the stress my super-sensitive acne prone combination skin goes through *rolls eyes*. So I have been reading and researching about good moisturizers and one ingredient that keeps coming up is Hyaluronic Acid that provides good hydration without making skin sticky or giving acne.

Recently, Pond's launched a new gel moisturizer with this super ingredient and even though historically my skin does not like Pond's product, I felt that this might be different since I had read so many beauty bloggers rave about it. So I bought Pond's Super Light Gel 2 months ago and here let us see how it fared :)

Packaging of Pond's Super Light Gel Oil Free Moisturiser is a simple round flat tub that looks secure enough to be travel-friendly. Pond's products always stand out of the crowd thanks to their simple yet elegant color schemes and this is no different with soothing blue color making the package attractive. In fact, even the gel itself has a soothing baby blue color that looks amazing.

Ingredients list is LONG and includes everything from water, dimethicone, niacinamide, phenoxyethanol, perfume to stearic acid, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, limonene, and linalool. It has good as well as bad stuff, as we will see in the review.

Claims that this super light oil free gel moisturiser gives non-sticky glowing skin with regular usage thanks to hyaluronic acid + vitamin E.

Availability of  Pond's Super Light Gel Oil Free Moisturiser is good online as offline. Pond's is one of the most easily-available brands in India. You can buy it from Nykaa, Amazon, and most other online websites or offline shops. Very cost effective at just about Rs. 149 for 73 grams.

Quantity is good enough to last about 20 days when used everyday on face and neck.

Usage - Cleanse face and apply this in dots all over the face evenly.

Effect - Full disclosure- Pond's is one of those brands that rarely have products to suit my skin. During my college days, I tried many Pond's products mainly since it is too cost-effective. But over the years I realised that these were actually making my skin drier as well as giving me pimples and rashes, so I stopped using them. The same thing happens with other big mass brands such as Garnier, Loreal, Lakme.

But anyway, when I was reading about Hyaluronic Acid and then read so many good reviews of this super light gel, everybody was talking about how it suits even sensitive skin and how Hyaluronic Acid can make one's skin as good as a baby's, so obviously I got tempted and bought it. BIG MISTAKE! First thing, I always find it alarming when any product has an ingredients list with 20-25 names. Why does one need so many chemicals? I understand that chemicals are important, every chemical is not bad, but products can be formulated only by using 2-3 ingredients too, right? But I think Pond's doesn't know how to formulate such simple products *sigh*.

So I bought this, and tentatively applied it on my neck first to see if it was giving any allergic reaction. It felt cool and watery on my skin, no complaints there. It also has a light pleasing fragrance and instantly provides hydration to skin, no complaints again. It did not give any allergies on neck so the next day I applied on my face. Unfortunately, within 24 hours I could see little pimples on my cheeks and red rashes appear out of nowhere :( Once more, the curse of using Pond's affected me. So I used the rest on my neck and hands and vowed never to buy another Pond's product.

If you already use Pond's products, you may like this as my skin is super-duper sensitive. If your skin is not sensitive then you can definitely try it. It will give good hydration to oily or combination skin while dry skinned people will need to use another moisturizer on top of it. Actually Pond's super light gel is considered a cheap dupe of the high-end Neutrogena Hydro Boost, but I have not used Neutrogena either so cannot confirm this.

YES
  • Has Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin E + Niacinamide
  • Beautiful baby blue color, cool watery texture
  • Gives hydration to combination and oily skin
  • Extremely cost-effective
  • Considered cheap dupe of Neutrogena Hydro Boost
  • Easily available online as well as offline

NO
  • Long list of chemicals in ingredients
  • Will not suit super-sensitive skin that hates ingredients such as dimethicone and perfume

Recommended -Maybe. Only for those who have already used and love Pond's products!. Rating is 2.5/5.

Karwari Food Festival | Solitaire Restaurant Hotel Kohinoor Continental | Best Food Festival Destination | Food Review

Anybody making a list of best buffet dining destinations or food festival destinations in Mumbai, make Solitaire Restaurant at Kohinoor Continental your top pick right away. Delicious food, very value for money price point, elegant calm ambiance, excellent staff and superb service-pick your reason to visit Solitaire and just do it :)

I have been here for multiple food festivals over the years and not once have they disappointed me or my family. Have loved the Thai Food Festival, the Maharashtrian Food Festival, and now the Karwari Food Festival that is going on right now till 17th of November 2019. There aren't 500 items in the buffet, but more than enough for anybody to feast like royalty.

They have brought the perfect home-cooked feel, everything tastes like prepared by a loving grandma, so this is the right place to say goodbye to oil-laden food that is the usual trademark of typical 'restaurant food'. And the walk till Solitaire is also adorned with ambiance-enhancing decorations, nice touch :) For me, the main draw was that Karwari food, from the coastal Karnataka region, that is mainly seafood based, also had many options for a hardcore vegetarian like me. Ingredients like coconut, hand-pounded spices, tamarind, potatoes have been used generously and I cannot emphasize this enough-nothing has been doused in ghee or oil to make it tasty, rather the real taste of real ingredients shines through in every preparation. This is the best differentiating factor here that even my mother loved a lot.

Started off with PANAK, the most refreshing drink hands down, with Jaggery, Lemon, Ginger, Black Pepper together, how can this not be magical :) Alongside there was also SOL KADI and BUTTERMILK but I ended up having 3 rounds of Panak and would have had more if a delicious spread of food did not beckon me :D

The starters and salads section was hands down my favorite with plethora of bites in crunchy and healthy avatars, including-

BEETROOT KISMOR- Tangy-Spicy medley of Beetroots, Peanuts, Onions and just a dash of homemade masala,
TOUSHE MULYAR- Cooling preparation with Cucumber, Dahi, Coconut,
ASSORTED PAPAD- Do not miss the Shankh shaped papads!
ASSORTED KAAP- Basically fritters but baked, not fried, thin slices of Potatoes, Bananas, Brinjals and Yams. Sound humble but wait till you taste them, the delicious crumby coating will force you to go back for seconds.
DAL VADE- THE BOMB! I lost count of how many of these I had. Looked like the simple tikki we have but I haven't had a more balanced mix of spices, onions, daal in a tikki version EVER. I kid you not, I am salivating just thinking about it even now.
KHOTTE- Idli steamed in Jackfruit leaves, try it for the earthy other-worldly flavor not found in any food nowadays :)

For main course, we noshed on another set of down-to-earth dishes found in Karwari households. Think veggies with coconut, curries with mix of tamarind and chillies with capsicum and raw mangoes, bhakris made of healthy ingredients such as jowar way before quinoa and kale became fashionable! We had and loved-

KAIRI UDIT METHI- Raw Mango + Karela in red curry, a bite of bitter with a lot of tanginess,
BATATA TALASINI- Simple Potato Bhaaji with Mustard,
CHANA SURANA GASSI- Bengal Gram and Yam in a hearty thick curry with coconut and hint of tamarind,
PUGHE MIRSANG ROSE- Capsicum and Potatoes in wholesome coconut curry,
BHINDI SUKKE- Ladies fingers frolicking in a paste of coconut with loving masalas,
DAL made just like mom makes at home, no butter, no ghee, no flashy tadka, just plain happiness,
JOWAR and RICE BHAKRI, AMBE-MOHAR RICE that went as well with all the curries as the jodi of Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet,

The Home-made pickles were a great hit with mom in this section too.

And then we had to save some space for dessert too, a limited but nonetheless delicious selection of authentic Karwari delicacies enticed us. We had-

FRUITS such as pineapple, kiwi, watermelons, papaya,
MOONG DAAL PAYAS,a lightly-sweetened moong daal porridge, can be had even by those who do not like sugar,
SUKRUNDE, looks like pakode but tastes like Puran Poli, with the same stuffing inside the outer gram flour covering, a dollop of ghee will make it even better,
PATOLI, my mom is from Orissa and she tells me there they call this Pittha, rice batter stuffed with coconut and jaggery and then steamed in turmeric leaves, MUST-HAVE, simple but heavenly,

And the most delicious dessert ever-GADBAD ICE CREAM, a rage in Karnataka, mix of Vanilla, Strawberry, Mango ice creams with wafer chips, chocolate straws, chocolate chips, tutti-frutti nuggets, jellies, sprinkles..basically just let yourself be a 5 year old kid again and enjoy a trillion calories in a glass :D

Seriously, what else is the definition of good life? :)

The Story Of A Suicide | Sriram Ayer | Saga Of A Killer Among Us | Book Review | Opinion

We live, We die, End of story.

But sometimes the story ends abruptly, way before it should have, when someone decides to commit suicide.

Book Review

The dreaded S word. There are many points and counterpoints regarding this volatile topic but instead of pontificating about it from a high pedestal, how about giving it a friendly look in the simplest way possible?

This is exactly what 'The Story Of A Suicide' attempts. This novel by Sriram Ayer approaches this not as a cataclysmic event that needs to be treated with either kid gloves or a national breaking news level cacophony, rather as a personal event that everybody can relate to.

THE STORY

Hari, Sam, Mani and Charu are the four protagonists whom the story revolves around. One of them commits suicide because of the violent web of relationships tangled in jealousy, revenge, misunderstanding and heightened emotions that grip them all.

Hari is a childhood sexual abuse survivor, Mani belongs to an economically impoverished background and both of them are grappling wit their sexual identity. Sam belongs to a privileged background, is a self - avowed tech geek and imprisoned by his hormonal desires towards Charu who is a ultra progressive, free-as-a-bird, care-a-damn girl with an agenda to set things right in the world but without any specific plan to do so. All of them bump into each other at prestigious KIT college and a cosmic plan seems to have been put into motion. Friendship, Infatuation, Confusion, Love, Misunderstanding, Jealousy, Revenge, Lust, Fear and more collide till they are all at their breaking points. Finally, someone breaks. But Who? And most importantly, could it have been avoided?

Book Review Blogger

SPECIAL MENTION

Since the story is truly addictive, I would loathe to give out any major story twist so that other readers can derive their pleasure of having read a beautiful story to its end on their own. But I would definitely like to put forth a glimpse of some of the issues that have been raised in this journey :-
  • Indian Culture - A potent glimpse at how we as a society, as a family, burden our youngsters with our expectations, chalk out their future for them and sweep under the carpet anything that makes us uncomfortable or threatens our 'values'.
  • Twisted 'Isms'- The concept of feminism has been twisted, turned, abused and so has been the concept of masculinity. The equation of power between the genders is completely topsy-turvy and it is interesting to see the characters (especially Charu and Sam grapple through it)
  • Fear of Social Rejection - After all, we need acceptance. The fear of being labelled something unsavory in front of our peers makes us keep our deepest nightmares to ourselves which often leads to drastic consequences. This is especially true for the teenagers and college goers because this is the time when our hormones play havoc and our emotions are heightened.
  • Social Media - A story so deep rooted in the youngsters' worlds has to keep technology in starring role and The Story of A Suicide does it marvelously with topics of hacking, cyber stalking/ bullying and online violence playing the most crucial role in pushing forward the story.
  • Suicide as a weapon - It is not only the harried characters who think of suicide as a means of being free or getting away from the unbearable situations, quite a few supporting characters in the story bring it up as a means of fighting the 'guilt' or 'shame' of having failed in the eyes of society (as a parent/as a son/as a gender and so on) which makes this part the most relatable for me.
Suicide Fiction
PERSONAL MEMORY

When I was 10 years old, we had a new family move into our apartment block in Patna. They had a 25 year old son who always lived indoors, had no job, went nowhere, just sat at the window of his room and stared outside. A few weeks down the line, we started hearing loud noises of altercation from the flat. It came to fore that the son was a drug addict who had swindled all his tuition fees into drugs, got into a bad spot with some loan sharks and his family had to shift cities to keep themselves safe. He was a genius but alas, without any idea of how to navigate social realities and preferred to remain in his world of drug-induced haze. His mother would thus keep up nights howling in pain cursing him and herself, crying out loud 'Oh I should commit suicide, why am I even alive, I have failed as a mother'. It sort of became a cruel joke in the neighborhood and people loved copying her painful cries at parties. As a kid of course I had no idea what all this meant. But today I do.

It is actually commonplace to hear such cries in our neighborhoods.
Parents feel like they failed in raising a good child = want to commit suicide,
kids get less marks in school = suicide,
son marries out of caste = conservative parents threaten to commit suicide,
daughter has pre-marital relations = society shames whole family into suicide,
girl gets raped = 'better she commit suicide than live with this shame',
morphed images/videos get leaked = 'why live in such shame, what will society say, commit suicide'

Oh by the way, the genius yet drug addled young man from our neighborhood? He did commit suicide a year later after which his parents moved out never to be heard from again. They were the butt of jokes anyway. I guess at some point down the line they must have failed completely useless and I won't be surprised if they decided to commit suicide too. This is why when in this novel, Hari's father mentions suicide as a means of him getting rid of 'shame', I immediately thought of this incidence from my childhood. And this is the victory of  'The Story of a Suicide'.

Suicide Fiction Book Review

THE OVERVIEW

It starts off as a simple story of youngsters, their lives, their dreams, hopes, ambitions, confusions, struggles, all explained in our everyday language, making it extremely easy to relate to, while the specter of suicide hangs above. As we move on through the character's lives, we can all reminisce of our own college days as we all know someone like Mani, Hari, Sam or Charu. I sure know all of them. Behind all our faces, we have another face, a mask that keeps our secrets and these characters all have their secrets too which only we, the readers know. I feel that some topics could have been explained better, such as the burden of our education system which forces Mani to do something drastic. A large part of story is devoted to topics of sexuality, especially homosexuality, which is definitely a burning point when it comes to both our youngsters' fixation as well as modern times. It could have been toned down a bit. But keeping this minor nitpicking aside, the story has been woven in a simple way to drive home a larger point successfully. It actually works like a social treatise for those of us who yearn to understand humanity better.
Reasons for Suicide
There has to be special praise given to the beautiful illustrations that make the innermost emotions of desperation, dejection, loneliness and so on come alive. Truly, a killer walks among us all, in the form of all the negative emotions that can push us beyond the brink. Well done, Illustrations by Ghana!
Loneliness
FINAL WORDS

It is but natural that on reading a powerful story like this, everybody would have a handbook ready to be able to approach life in a better way :)
  • Change begins from ME - Being positive in all my thoughts and actions is the first step to changing the world. Spreading this thought everywhere makes a difference. We make the society, so let's start building a better one today!.
  • Keep an eye out - Souls that get hurt over and over seem to crawl into a shell, unaware that they can find a shoulder to cry on. Be that shoulder whenever, wherever possible.
  • Stop Judgement Calls - None of us want to be judged, yet this is something we all indulge in, sadly :( Whenever we gossip, no matter how 'harmless' it seems, we just push forward the cause of hostility, ignorance and intolerance. Trying to put ourselves in someone else's shoes helps!
  • Give life a second chance - Let's not get into political debates about 'rights' or 'wrongs'. There are a million reasons for which an individual might want to commit suicide, let us not brand them as 'cowards' etc. All we can do is take care of ourselves and those closest to us, keep an eye out for trouble and embrace everything with an open mind, a hopeful heart and a smile on our lips.

How to deal with suicidal thoughts
For everybody who sat through this treatise of mine, I heartily recommend reading The Story Of A Suicide. I am sure it will affect you as personally as it did me :)
